100% agree with "anon":
"The bottom line is-Outlook is just simply a bloated, malfunctional, inconsistent, incomprehensive, [..] By the time anyone figures it all out they could have hand-written, mailed and delivered 100 postal messages. [...]The REAL tragedy is that people accept this and make exuses on behalf of whoever hires them, tolerating what they KNOW is bad."

That is so true.
I personally can't think of all the hours I have lost troubleshooting Outlook's problems in my company. It's supposed to be a simple email client for fuck sake. I can't believe that a simple email program on its own can be the source of so many different technical problems. Once in a while the shite doesn't load properly, or takes ages, loses stuff, etc... Every day I receive support tickets from end users cause outlook doesn't do this, or this and that anymore... it's a fucking nightmare, we'll need to hire a dedicated IT team for outlook at this rate. it's unbelievable. I mean, think about it, telnet was the 1st email client right? ok the average user could hardly use it but then again telnet does the job properly. That's the point, even a utterly silly and lightweight binary like telnet can do the email task properly: Coding a program to fetch emails doesn't require years of software engineering. So why, since ms outlook exists, it has never managed to do the job without a glitch or a crash every once in a while? Who cares about a flashy GUI and all the addons, what we expect from an email client is to be able to read emails on a day to day basis without the hassle of reinstalling or waste hours trying to figure out why it just doesn't work normally. I use gmail for my personal emails, I NEVER EVER had any sort of problem using gmail whatsoever. Gmail is free, lightweight compared to outlook cause its all web based, I used it under windows, unix, mac and so on ... In my previous job, we used Thunderbird in Solaris, managed hundreds of thousands of email accounts, and never, I mean, NEVER had 10% of the problems I have with ms outlook everyday. I admit MS stuff is the best thing for end users, but when it comes to servers and services, sorry, but Unix is far better. I am not a pro unix at all, but I am just wondering why is everyone sticking to a proprietary, outrageously expensive and, last but not least, totally fucked up program like outlook knowing there are hundreds of free and stable equivalents?

#64 barely touches on the BIGGEST flaw in Outlook IMO. For any "normal" user, completely backing up your email, contacts, and calendar is IMPOSSIBLE. God help you if you ever need to restore them after formatting or getting a new computer.

It's mind bottling that the ONLY way to really back up your data is to find the .pst in a maze of hidden folders and copy/paste it when outlook is reinstalled.

(Not so) Nice list,
Maybe not all items are justifiable, because they have to do with settings which you (and I too) do not know about, You made my day! At age five, my folks taught me how to write and drop a letter in the mail....now I have to deal with software that tries to do what the programmers (or marketing people) thought that I'd want. They failed completely: f.i. why would I want my replies to be formatted so they look like an idiot is at the keyboard?
Or did I miss the switch to turn that 'feature' (I call it a bug) off?

I have never had any of these issues, it sounds to me like you want the computer to do all the thinking for you...

If your car breaks down, you take it to a auto shop, if your washer breaks you call a repair "person" , but if your computer has a glitch it becomes a major national disaster?

I used to be a MS hater, but then my company switched to Google, removed MS Office completely, and forced us all to use the Gmail web interface, Google Apps, and all because it was cheaper.

So here are the top 7 things I hate about Google/Gmail.

1. I cannot drag and drop attachments or anything for that matter.
2. I cannot insert and image in a new email, I can attached it, but not insert.
3. Emails sent to more than 5000 people fail on a regular basis.
4. Threaded conversations, I like them in outlook, but Gmail gives no options to sort on the fly, you are forced to use thier stupid labels, and nothing else.
5. Google has missed their SLA 4 of the last 6 months, with 450 minutes of downtime, and all there offer are service credits. (MS offers real financial penalties for downtime on BPOS)
6. Google cannot "tell" me where my data is, MS can.
7. Google Calculator is misleading and a poor marketing tool.

Computers, and Software are both built by "man", and therefore are just as foulable as a "man". There is no "perfect" computer that never crashes, or has any issue.

Grow up and learn, it won't hurt, it might even help.

Two more that Microsoft REFUSES to fix:

1. Can\'t print envelopes or labels directly from Outlook - that would cut into their Word sales.

2. Domestic addresses include \"United States of America.\" So, even if you COULD print envelopes or DO use Word to print envelopes from Outlook, you must delete the last line (the Post Office doesn\'t need or want to know that Texas is in the U.S., although lately, I wish we were not). The alternative is remove it from each address in Outlook, but as soon as you change an address, it comes back like a stray cat looking for another saucer of milk.

It must be all that Starbucks coffee in Redmond that keep those people moving so fast into the future that they can\'t stop to fix their past mistakes!

This is what happens when your primary dev teams consist of bottom-dollar offshore contractors, which now describes MS to a T.

Outlook has screwed up many of my calendar items. How? All I did was switch time zones from PT to ET. What a mess! I am done with it, and switching to something else.
