Adobe

Adobe used to be cool. They make Photoshop. Now that’s a cool program. So what the hell is wrong with Acrobat? Each version gets more and more bloated, to the point where I can’t read a 10 page paper without it gobbling up over a 100 megs of memory. WTF?

The user interface is going down the toilet too. Who thought that the normal “Find” functionality needed to be mucked with? Who thought that when I’m searching a 1600 page reference manual for the next occurance of a word, that I really don’t want a list of every occurance the whole book. Not to mention the fact that it takes 2 or 3 mouse clicks (with no obvious keyboard replacements) to execute a new search. I find myself thinking, “Gee, I’d really like to search for this term … but it’s just not worth the hassle.”

Okay, and the toolbars suck and are not at all customizable. It’s cool that I can mark up a page with my Tablet PC, but why the hell am I limited to red ink of one thickness?

And then they take their garbage and spill it into every program they can get their hands on. MS Word and Excel get Acrobat toolbars that re-install themselves when you try to turn them off. The the Windows Explorer context menu get’s clogged with all sorts of Acrobat options that no one ever asked for. Argh!

The line between software and malware grows thinner every day.

And that’s my rant for today.
